桜の苗木の記念植樹 Presentation ceremony of the young cherry trees
「日本アゼルバイジャン交流２２周年を記念並びにワールド・カツプ・硬式（コンタクト）空手道選手権大会を祝して、アゼルバイジャン側の名誉総裁であられるアリエフ大統領閣下並びに、アリフ・パシャエヴ、国立航空アカデミー学長・アゼルバイジャン少林寺流拳行館・硬式（コンタクト）空手道連盟会長 のご臨席の下で、”桜の苗木の記念植樹”が実施されますことを心よりお祝い申し上げます。
今から２２数年前、アゼルバイジャン共和国が独立して、初めて開催された国際会議に招待され、海外から最初に貴国を訪ねた者として、国立バクー大学に於いて、“エネルギーとファイテイング・アート”とのタイトルで、講演を致す名誉ある機会を賜りました。
日本少林寺流拳行館空手道の修行は、真に人の気力・体力・精神力、それら、“人のエネルギー”を如何に高め、健康な体と健全な精神を育成し、護身の技術を強化するか、日々の気力の向上・護身鍛練・精神修養法の一端を、実際に、硬式（コンタクト）空手道実技の演武を紹介し解説致す幸運に恵まれました。
本来、日本武道は、鉾（武器）を止める、即ち平和を追求する道であります。私は、戦前戦後を通して、ソ連政府から最初にして最後に正式に招待を受け、日本武道・空手道の指導・演武紹介を致しました。その当時、グルジアが、独立とその後の数年に渡る内乱で国と国民が、ズタズタに破壊された、その国と人々の心を，再興、再生するには、先ず、人々の心と体を健康にする為、少林寺流拳行館空手道の鍛錬が一番必要だと考え、シュワルナーゼ大統領顧問のデイビット・イワニシビリ氏が，わざわざ遥か遠いアメリカ・ニューヨークまで、私を訪ねて来て、 我が国の学校教育・社会体育に採用するので，是非、我がグルジア国に来て指導教授して下さいとの申し入れを受けました。
如何して，そのような様な考えに成ったか問うたところ、戦後、中国から引き揚げて来た、私の父、開祖久高政祺幸利指南が、廃墟と化けた地上を立て直すには、先ず、人々の心と体の健康作りから始め、自信と勇気を育て､明日に向かつて希望が持てる、気力を養成する事が重要と考えに至つたとの事。又開祖が満州で、引き揚げている際ちゅう、橋も道路も爆破されて深く谷底に河が流れている、その上の谷間に、その辺から拾つて来た丸太木を渡し橋にして、現地の人々や逃げるようにしている引き揚げ者達が、向こう岸に渡れず、怖がつて、途方に暮れている人達を，一人一人肩に担ぎ丸太の橋の上を渡り、敵味方の区別無く、献身的に救助している姿を、その場に居合わせた人達が手を合わせて祈り感謝したとの逸話を、私の空手道の本で読んだとの事。
私自身、数度のアゼルバイジャン訪問を通じて、アゼルバイジャン各地で国民 のみなさんに大変温かく迎えていただき、アゼルバイジャン国民のみなさんが、空手道を通して、日本に対する友好親善の思いを強く実感し、大変心強く感じております。 更なる両国の発展を願つております。
桜は日本を代表する木の一つです。桜は我が国国民に春の訪れを伝える花として深く愛されています。日本では、桜の花の下で家族や友人と集い、その美 しさを通じて新たな季節の始まりを感じております。その”桜の苗木1００本”が、両国の友好親善を願う、善意の象徴としてアゼルバイジャンに寄贈される運びとなったことは 大変喜ばしいことと考えます。日本アゼルバイジャン親善交流２２周年の機会に贈られる桜は多くのアゼルバイジャン国民の方々から末永く愛されていくことと希望致しております。
本日、スポーツ・文化交流、環境問題に関心を有しておられるアリエフ大統領閣下並びに、アリフ・パシャエヴ、国立航空アカデミー学長他、両国の関係者で植樹されるこの桜が、日本アゼルバイジャン両国の友好親善のシンボルとして、今後100年、そして更なる１00年と健やかに育っていくこと期待しつつ、私の言葉と致します。」

Presentation ceremony of the young cherry trees
To recognize the 20th anniversary of the relationship between Azerbaijan and Japan and the Koshiki (Contact) Karate World Cup, we would like to celebrate with the memorial planting of young cherry trees, inviting the honourable President Ilham Heydar oglu Aliyev, and the Chairman of Azerbaijan Shorinjiryu Kenkokan and President of National Air Academy, Mr. Arif Bashiev.

I had an opportunity to speak about “Energy and Fighting Arts” at the National Baku University for the Independence Ceremony of Azerbaijan 22 years ago as a first national guest from Japan. I explained that the training of the Shorinjiryu Karate creates higher “Human Energy” through continuous training, and develops stronger Mind, Body and Spirit. Following the speech, I demonstrated Koshiki (Contact) Karate.
Japanese martial arts were originally defensive techniques against weapons. In this manner, the true martial art is the way to seek Peace. To further this goal of Peace, I demonstrated and taught Japanese martial arts and Karate after World War II, invited by the Soviet Union government.
In those days, Georgia had a difficult situation after Independence and a civil war. Mr. David Iwanishibiri visited New York as a replacement for former President Shevardnadze. Following that, I was asked to introduce Shorinjiryu Karate into Azerbaijan so that Shorinjiryu Karatedo could be taught in schools to further the health of mind and body for the people of Azerbaijan.
By teaching and practicing Shorinjiryu Karatedo, Kaiso Kori Hisataka, Shinan, 10th dan, tried to help Japanese people have a healthy mind and body after World War II, and also to have confidence to live. Former Georgia President Shevardnadze read articles I had written about Kaiso’s dedication to use Shorinjiryu Karatedo to help rebuild Japan, and how Kaiso had helped people to cross rivers past broken bridges by carrying them on his shoulders while on his way back to Japan from China in World War II. Through this, he thought about how Shorinjiryu Karate could help the recovery of a country.
I visited Azerbaijan many times and know that the people of Azerbaijan have a close relationship to Japan through Karate. I hope the future will bring an even closer relationship between the two countries.
Cherry trees are a national symbol of Japan.
We love the Cherry tree as the symbol of spring.
We enjoy food and drink under the Cherry tree with families or friends, watching beautiful blossoms.
It is a deep pleasure to present 100 young Cherry trees to celebrate the 22 years of wonderful relationship between Azerbaijan and Japan.
I hope that the young Cherry trees will grow up as a symbol of the good relationship between the two countries for hundreds of years in the future, along with the attending of President Ilham Heydar oglu Aliyev, who has a deep understanding for cultural and sport exchanges and environmental concerns, Mr. David Iwanishibiri, and Mr. Arif Bashiev, President of National Air Academy.
