コンタクト空手とノンコンタクト空手

沖縄源流、少林寺流拳行館唐手道の開祖久高政棋幸利拳聖十段が、１００年前に、初めて空手の一撃必殺の技を、実際に、突き、蹴り、打ち当て極める事が出来るように、鎧兜，剣道の防具等を空手用に改良した。

安全に組手練習が出来る、そして攻撃技、防御技、反撃技を正しく修得する事が出来る。

画期的な空手道の練習方法を開発された事は、正にコンタクト硬式空手道の誕生、空手道の修業の深遠なる心技を会得し体得する事が出来るように成りました。

危険な武道修業ではなく、近代スポーツとして、楽しく心・技・体を鍛える事が出来るように指導されました。

勝負の判定が明確であるということは、優れた健康教育、精神文化として、真に日本が世界に誇れるものとして、広く海外に普及・発展させた事に、深く敬意を表します。

一方、戦後６０数年前、荒れ果てた地から、やつと立ち上がりかけた頃、優秀な大学の空手部の学生達が中心に、沖縄で行われていた形分解の組手法、特に一本組手練習法を基に、日本武道の剣道の形の練習体系を模倣して、組手の形の練習体系を考案した。

真剣で、切る、突くを、上段、中段の的に、当てずに止める技法を採り入れ、空手の拳・足を、当てると危険なので的の一寸前で止める、ノン・コンタクト寸止め空手の誕生、寸止め組手競技方を採用したことから、大学生の組織作りと大会の運営は、素晴らしく、当時、戦後の復興、経済の発展と重なり、驚異的に普及した。今や、世界１００か国以上に普及し世界最大の組織に成り、オリンピックを目指し活発に活動しています。

Today, I would like to discuss one of the revolutionary changes that occurred during the long history of Karate.

One hundred years ago, Kaiso Kori Masayoshi Hisataka, Kensei 10th Dan and Founder of Shorinjiryu Kenkokan Karatedo, carefully studied the protectors used in Kendo (Japanese fencing) to develop protective equipment for Karate to enable direct punching and kicking without fear of injury. This newly developed protective equipment for Karate offered safe practice of Karate with direct attacks, to enable us to learn proper offensive, defensive and counter techniques. This protective equipment for Karate started the history of Contact Karate. Through this, we could train Mind, Technique and Body as a modern sport. As a result, Contact Karate provides a safe set of competition rules where everyone can compete equally, and victory or defeat can be clearly determined through direct attacks to the protective equipment.

We are proud that through the practice of Contact Karate, people can obtain healthy mind and body, and experience the culture of the martial arts of Japan.

Also, after the Second World War over 60 years ago, Japanese University students started to study Okinawan Karate under impoverished conditions. They carefully studied the Kumite (fight) of Karate, especially ippon-kumite, based on the tournament method of Kendo. The Karate tournament method which evolved from this is Non-Contact Karate, that only allows punches and kicks to opponents’ target points without contact, because of the danger of direct attacks. This Non-Contact Karate tournament method spread into the world.

Now, many people in over 100 countries practice Karate with Contact or Non-Contact tournament systems.
