御承知のように、空手の発祥は沖縄で、日本本土で、競技化され、近代スポーツとして発展し、戦後、空手の各流派会派の若い指導者達がアメリカ、ヨーロッパの国々を始めとして、世界各国に紹介、指導いたし献身的な努力の成果、大いに普及、発展する事が出来ました。
＊ 戦後、アメリカ・カルフォルニアを中心に、松涛館空手の西山英俊師範が、空手道の演武並びに指導をして、ブラウン先生と共著で英文の“エンプテイーハンド・ファイテイング（空手）”の本を出されベストセラーに成り、空手道の普及・発展に大いに貢献された。
＊ 戦後、アメリカ・ニューヨークのマジソン・スクアガーデンに於いて、極真会館，館長の大山倍達師範が、空手の一大デモンストレーションを行い、大喝采を浴び、空手の本を英文で出され、“大山カラテ”を世界に広め、空手の普及・発展に偉大な実績を残された。
＊ 戦後、アメリカ・ニューヨークで開かれた世界博覧会で、日本を代表して、沖縄源流少林寺流拳行館空手道総本部の久高正之空観、範士九段、山崎久信、拳豪五段、森田実、拳士四段、ジェイムス・ギャラガー行士二段、ウオールター・ゲックルマン修士参段等がジャパニーズ・パビリオンで、初めて空手道の演武紹介をした。その後、アメリカ東部地区を中心に、コロンビア大学、ニューヨーク州立大学、ウェストポイント士官学校、スクール・オブ・サイエンテイフィツク・ジュードー・カラテドー等で指導教授した。
英文の“サイエンテイフィック・カラテドー”の本が、ロングセラーに成り、日本武道文化としての空手道の普及・発展に努力した。
日本が世界に誇る、武道文化・空手道が、近代スポーツとして世界の多くの人々に受け入れられました。

Karate originally started in Okinawa and further developed in mainland Japan as a modern sport, then spread across the world after World War II through the efforts of many young Japanese Karate instructors who taught Karate in the US, Europe and elsewhere. Their strong effort to introduce Karate around the world was wonderful.
○ Shihan Hidetoshi Nishiyama of Shotokan Karate taught and demonstrated Karate in California USA and published the book “Empty Hand Fighting” with co-writer Sensei Brown.
○ Shihan Masutatsu Oyama, Chairman of the Kyokushin Kaikan demonstrated Karate at Madison Square Garden, New York, and published the Karate book in English. He successfully became a famous Karateka and made great progress for Karate.
○ At the World Fair in New York, Hanshi Masayuki Kukan Hisataka, 9th Dan of Shorinjiryu Kenkokan Karatedo Headquarters, Shihan Hisanobu Yamazaki Kengo 5th Dan, Shihan Minoru Morita Kenshi 4th Dan, and Sensei Water Gogleman Shushi 3rd Dan, demonstrated and introduced Shorinjiryu Kenkokan Karate at the Japanese Pavilion.
Later, Hanshi Masayuki Kukan Hisataka 9th Dan taught scientific judo and karate at at Colombia University, the University of New York, McGill University and West Point.
Then, he published the book “Scientific Karate” and continued to make Karate more popular around the world.
Now, although still a Japanese traditional martial art, Karate is well accepted by people of the world as a modern sport.
