第２９回ジャパン・オープン硬式空手道選手権大会には、東日本大震災の被災地から菊池信弘師範、大沼栄宏師範はじめ各流会派・団体の諸先生方のご協力と被災地代表選手、各県の選手諸君の参加を得ることができ、活気溢れる硬式組手試合と精錬された形競技それに少年達が元気一杯に戦い上達振りを見せ、一生懸命に演武する姿は、頼もしく、真に”がんばれ東日本”に”元気と希望”を与える活躍し、参加者全員大いに頑張りそして観客の皆様の熱い応援を受け大変盛り上がり成功裡に終える事が出来ました事を、ここに謹んでご報告申し上げます。
特見事優勝した”被災地の星“佐藤太一選手は、当世界硬式空手道連盟が10月にウクライナ・ドネーツクで開催されるユーロオープンに特別招待する事に成りました。

昨年選出されたオリンピック推進委員会が、積極的にオリンピック参加運動を展開しております。GAISF・ワールド・ゲームス、大陸大会への参加、特に国内で、日本体育協会・国民体育大会そして各都道府県への申請承認を得ていく様一層の努力が必要です。当連盟では、引き続き、今後も五大陸各国で硬式セミナーと硬式空手道選手権大会を開催し、オリンピック参加運動を繰り広げて参ります。

The 29th Japan Open Koshiki Karatedo Championship was held on Sept.19th at the Chuo-ku Sogo Budoujo. We had kata and shiai participants from elementary school first year students through to adult men’s open class.
In the adult men’s open class, former All Japan Heavy Weight Champion, Mr. Paul Ford, fought well with powerful kicks and fast punches and placed third in his first tournament in 4 years.
One particularly exciting match was between Mr. Zak Jones and Mr. Miyamoto, a 6th dan Judoka. The two fighters presented an interesting contrast, with Mr. Jones being very tall with long arms and legs, and Mr. Miyamoto being extremely compact and strong. Several times Mr. Jones sought to score with a jodan mawashigeri, but Mr. Miyamoto used his grappling techniques to catch the kick and powerfully throw Mr. Jones to the ground. However, Mr. Miyamoto was unable to successfully follow his throws with clear striking techniques, and was unable to score points despite his good throwing techniques. The fight was close, but Mr. Jones was able to win through points earned both from punches and kicks.
In addition to the adult men’s shiai, the overall tournament was very successful. In particular, there was a very large number of young children participating from several dojos. In this way, we see a very bright future for koshiki karate-do in Japan and look forward to many future strong karate players in Japan.
We also had a demonstration of Bunkai Kumite for Kata Kudaka no Souchin, demonstrated by Mr. Namekata, Mr. Takehana, and Mr. Sakamoto. Mr. Sakamoto and Mr. Takehana of the So-Honbu dojo also placed first and second respectively in Kata, with beautiful and powerful performances of Kata Kudaka no Nijushiho.
We are grateful for the participation of koshiki karate players from across the Kanto region and look forward to a very successful tournament again next year.
