ギリシャは,紀元前2200年頃、アテネ帝国と、スパルタ王国が対立していた。

Makiwara practice is essential for developing our knife hand strike, fist punch, heel kick, side kick, roundhouse kick with the ball of the foot, and elbow strike.
Karate’s tegatana knife hand was also used in ancient Greece, as we know from the history and theory of our Art as taught by the Kaiso, Founder of Shorinjiryu Kenkokan Karatedo, Kori Masayuoshi Hisataka, Kensei 10th Dan.
Athens and Spartan were the two major cities of Greece in B.C.2200. Athens has mountains in the North, and ancient hunters would use the tegatana (which we can call the “Athens chop” just like the “Karate chop”) to get animal meat.
And although Sparta has the famous reputation for its warriors, one can say that Athens was the base of the more strategic people, who learned to fight through their experience as hunters and by studying the animals.
